At the end of every year, The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit watchdog organization, publishes an extensive list of the best hospitals of the year. This past year's list featured 149 hospitals. Of those to be honored with the 2021 Top Hospital Award, 72 are teaching hospitals, 46 are general hospitals, 23 are rural hospitals, and eight are children's hospitals. We are proud to share that seven licensed facilities that have been recognized fall into two categories: teaching hospitals and general hospitals.
Two of our Texas locations made the Teaching Hospitals list, Medical City Denton (Denton) and UT Health North Campus Tyler (Tyler). Both St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor Hospital (Ypsilanti) and St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital (Chelsea) in Michigan have also been recognized amongst the best teaching hospitals. Rounding out this sub-group is UC San Diego Health La Jolla-Jacobs Medical Center and Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center in San Diego, California, and Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, Washington.
Marshall Medical Center in Placerville, California was recognized as one of the best general hospitals by The Leapfrog Group.
To compile these rankings, the Leapfrog Group used data from its annual hospital survey. Each hospital that made the list was selected for its excellence across several quality standards and areas of patient care, including surgery outcomes, medication safety, and infection rates.
We congratulate these hospitals who have each made great strides towards exceptional cardiovascular care!
